Beatles Autographed First Pressing Of "P.S. I Love You/Love Me Do" 45 (Parlophone, 1962). Extremely Rare. Signed on the "B" side (P.S. I Love You) label in black ballpoint "John Lennon xxx/ Paul McCartney/George Harrison/Ringo Starr xx". Disc MT-9; sleeve VG-Ex 6 with tear at label hole. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from the original owner for whom the signatures were obtained. Two COAs from Tracks and Heritage. According to the letter of provenance "The record was purchased and autographed... on October 6th at Dawson's Record Shop, Widnes...My cousin worked in a Liverpool City Centre typing pool and was already a fan of the group and a regular visitor to lunchtime sessions at the Cavern with her work colleagues - I, being somewhat younger, had not yet become aware of them, but she offered to buy me a copy of the record and have it signed as a birthday gift...I'm unable to remember too much about the occasion, other than there was a small queue - perhaps two dozen and that I had difficulty differentiating one group member from another, except for the short one, who seemed very jovial and laughed a lot - I assumed at the time he must be the leader!" According to the excellent reference book Beatles For Sale on Parlophone Records by Bruce Spizer and Frank Daniels (New Orleans: 498 Productions, 2011), this is one of the "few thousand" pressed for the October 5th release with the very first version of the record label, referenced in the book as PAR 4949.01A(i). The main indication is that "the initial labels, 01A(i), have the Ardmore & Beechwood publishing credit left-aligned and slightly indented so that the 'B' is above the 'XC' in the matrix number prefix 7XCE." All the other "tells" match including the tax code pressed into the trail off area being "ZT".
Example Information 2:
Beatles Signed "Love Me Do/ P.S. I Love You" 45 (Parlophone R4949, 1962). "Love Me Do" was the Beatles first-ever single on Parlophone, released on October 5, 1962. This copy includes very early Beatle signatures. George has signed on the pushout center spindle with Ringo, Paul, and John around the label (clockwise). They have all added "XXX"s to their signatures. The original EMI sleeve is included with 2/6 written on it, likely the original price. Record is VG-EX 6; sleeve VG-EX 6 with the above-mentioned writing on one side. COA from Heritage Auctions.
